Acute ischaemic stroke caused by occlusion of a cerebral artery is a leading cause of disability globally. In Australia, there are over 56 000 stroke cases annually.¹ Stroke care has been revolutionised in recent years with the advent of effective reperfusion therapies. 

It is now possible for some patients with severe stroke to recover and be discharged home in a matter of days. However, major challenges remain in the prevention and treatment of stroke. 

In this podcast, Professor Bruce Campbell outlines the current state of evidence and practice in Australia and talks about the advances made in stroke medicine in the past decade and breakthroughs that may be on the horizon.
