Who are we?

doctorportal Learning Pty Ltd (dpL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Australian Medical Association (WA) Inc.  

Our core business is producing high-quality continuing professional development (CPD) education for medical professionals and supporting management of their CPD via specialist CPD tracking software.  This Privacy Policy sets out how dpL protects your privacy.  We are also subject to the Privacy Act 1988 and other applicable State and Territory privacy law.  There is more information about these laws on the Australian Information Commissioner’s website: www.oaic.gov.au.    

 

What personal information do we collect, store and use and how and why do we collect this?

dpL collects personal information from persons enquiring or applying for a dpL account.  Most of this information is collected directly from the person concerned, via our online join form. We also collect information about dpL account holders’ use of dpL, such as module completions or module views.  dpL collects, stores and uses this information to:

 

Who do we share your information with?

Where you undertake CPD which is accredited by your medical college and you have supplied your college membership ID in ‘My Learning Profile’, the CPD Tracker can report completed activities to your medical college on your behalf. 

Generally, CPD reporting to the accrediting specialty college is undertaken by dpL, another company in the AMA Ltd group or a State or Territory AMA.  If a third-party education provider is undertaking the CPD reporting, the learning activity will clearly state this on the activity information page, before you register for the activity. If you choose to register for this learning, you agree that dpL, another company in the AMA Ltd group or a State or Territory AMA can share some of your personal information with the third-party education provider for this purpose. 

Where you use sign on to dpL via the Federal AMA website (ama.com.au), your details will be verified by the Federal AMA or a State or Territory AMA against the AMA Ltd database.  

 

Can I opt out of communications from doctorportal Learning?

Yes. Whenever we send a communication to a person or organisation registered with dpL, we will also provide you with a means to advise us that you no longer wish to receive some or all of this material.  

 

How do we store and protect the information we hold about you?

We store your information at our premises, in electronic systems under our control and with contracted data storage providers. We take appropriate steps to protect the security of the information we hold about you, including protections against unauthorised access, virus or other electronic intrusions, fire, theft or loss. We require our contracted providers to do the same.  Our staff are bound by strict requirements regarding the protection of the privacy of the information we collect and hold about you.  We or our contracted data storage providers may use servers, systems and cloud computing providers outside of Australia.  Our contracts with them require them to protect the privacy of your information when held on these servers and/or using cloud computing.  Our contractors are also required to comply with Australian Privacy laws.  

 

For how long do you keep my personal information?

If you cease to be a dpL account holder then, subject to our obligations to medical colleges, we will delete your information from the dpL database.  If you are also an AMA member, your details will continue to be kept on the AMA Ltd database.
