Managing Thyroid Disease in General Practice
DescriptionThyroid disease can be broadly categorised as thyroid dysfunction (hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism) and structural disease (goitre, nodules and cancer). Management is often straightforward, but there are pitfalls that may lead to misdiagnosis, overdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment.
This module approaches common thyroid problems in general practice.
Learning Outcomes
- Choose the best screening tool for thyroid dysfunction and is aware of parameters and resulting treatment plans
- Know of the health impact of subclinical hypothyroidism, particularly in older people
- Initiate appropriate assessments of palpable goiter and thyroid nodules
