Impairment Assessment Training NSW

Description

The training program, which includes a Core module and 15 specialty modules, provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the NSW workers compensation guidelines for the evaluation of permanent impairment 4th edition and the American Medical Association’s Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 5th Edition (AMA5).

The successful completion of the Core module and at least one specialty module is a mandatory requirement in order to apply to the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) and be listed on the SIRA website as a trained assessor of Permanent Impairment. 

Training material used during the program has been developed by Safe Work Australia.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand and adopt the key principles of permanent impairment assessments for the SIRA's NSW WorkersCompensation Scheme.

 

Eligibility criteria: To be eligible for listing as a trained assessor of permanent impairment an applicant must:

  • be a medical practitioner with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • be recognised as a medical specialist and remunerated at specialist rates under Medicare
  • have qualifications, training and experience relevant to each body system for which permanent impairment listing is sought
  • have undertaken the NSW workers compensation core training modules in the evaluation of permanent impairment and been assessed as competent in each body system(s) for which listing is sought
  • comply with the ‘Service standards for assessors of permanent impairment’ section of this document.

General Practitioners are not eligible to be listed as a trained assessor of permanent impairment for SIRA workers compensation.
