Sarcoidosis: a state of the art review from the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown aetiology, primarily affecting the lungs and lymphatic systems, although any organ may be involved. The management of sarcoidosis can be challenging, despite new developments in diagnostic techniques and biological agents for treatment.

This review discusses the developments in the understanding of its pathology, diagnosis and management.

  1. Outline the current understandings of sarcoidosis and highlight the need for further research based on this educational resource summary by the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand   
  2. List and explain some of the most commonly used diagnostic procedures    
  3. Know of the management of sarcoidosis and become aware of drugs choices for long-term treatment pathways
