Appropriate use of Serum Troponin Testing in General Practice

This module is about the evidence regarding troponin testing in a community setting, particularly relating to new information on the utility of high sensitivity assays and within the context of contemporary guidelines for the management of chest pain and the acute coronary syndrome.

 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Know of newly developed high sensitivity assays providing reliable detection of low troponin concentrations and early risk stratifications of patients with possible acute coronary syndrome
  2. Follow adequate procedures around troponin testing in general practice and patients presenting with possible acute coronary syndrome
  3. Ensure correct test labelling and having the right systems in place to ensure results are conveyed immediately
