Controversies in Diagnosis and Management of Community-acquired Pneumonia

Description

Although community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a relatively common infection, there are wide disparities in its management, including the class of antibiotics chosen, the duration of therapy and the role of adjunctive therapy such as corticosteroids.

This module assesses the evidence for the approaches to some of these clinical questions regarding CAP management.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Diagnose CAP and prescription antibiotics and corticosteroids appropriately
  2. Monitor signs and symptoms of cardiac complications, particularly in patients with a history of ischaemic cardiac disease or the presence of cardiac risk factors
