Macular Disease Foundation Australia

Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) is the national peak body representing the interests of the 8.5 million Australians living with or at risk of macular disease and their families. Its purpose is to reduce the incidence and impact of macular disease through leadership in prevention and early detection, disease management, advocacy, and research.

MDFA works collaboratively and in partnership with the community, health professionals, researchers, and government to minimise the impact of macular disease. It led the development of the National Strategic Action Plan for Macular Disease in partnership with the Commonwealth Government and stakeholders from across Australia’s eye health ecosystem. This is effectively a blueprint outlining a shared vision for reducing the incidence and impact of macular disease with evidence-based priority areas for action. MDFA also aims to better coordinate resources across all levels of government and to focus these resources where they are much needed.
